The abortion as a health problem in metropolitan Piura

We studied the incidence, distribution and rate of maternal death due to abortion in Piura, a city in the north coast of Peru. In health establishments, tip to 1996, 10,7 of gestations finished in abortion. Abortion rate was 122,5 per 1000 live new horn and 8,9% of the abortions were infected. Septic abortion was the third cause of maternal death in the last 4 years, representing 18,5%, behind eclampsia mid sepsis and before obstetric hemorrhage. Maternal death due to abortion in Piura in 1996 was 41 x 100 000 ab. (27,3% of total). The Regional Hospital concentrated all the cases of maternal death due to abortion. Rate was 150 x 100 000 ab (general rate of maternal death was 552 x 100 000 ab). The Regional Hospital presented high scores of abortion cases in comparison to the rest of health establishments because of patients reference.
Buscamos conocer la incidencia, distribución tasa de muerte materna por aborto en Piura, ciudad costeña del norte del Perú. Al nivel de establecimiento de salud, para 199ó1, el 10, 7% de las gestaciones terminó en aborto. La tasa de aborto fue de 122,5 por mil nacidos vivos y el 8,9% de los abortos estuvo infectado. El aborto séptico constituyó la tercera causa de muerte materna en los últimos 4 años, sépsis de otras etiologías y delante de la hemorragia obstétrica. La mortalidad materna por aborto en Piura en 1996 fue 41 x 100 000 nv. (27,3% del total). El hospital regional concentró todos los casos de muerte materna por aborto, presentando una tasa de 150 x por 100 000 nacidos vivos (tasa general de muerte materna de 552 x 100 000 nv.). El hospital regional presentó elevados indicios de atención por aborto frente al resto de establecimientos de salud, debido a la referencia de pacientes.
