This paper is a systematic study of the correspondence between two intellectuals very important to the history of Peru, Philip A. Means and Luis E. Valcarcel, U.S. and Peru, respectively. It took as its starting point the collection of information on the life and work of Means, this helped to complement the analysis of the letters sent by Means Valcarcel between the years of 1932-1940. The results of this research are reflected in the number of issues that were discussed by both intellectuals, all relevant to the history of Peru, but also revealed other information international. In sum, this study provides further insights on one of the little studied peruvianists from his correspondences with Peruvian intellectuals, in this case Luis E. Valcarcel.
El presente artículo es un estudio sistemático de la correspondencia entre dos intelectuales muy importantes para la Historia del Perú, Philip A. Means y Luis E. Valcárcel, norteamericano y peruano, respectivamente. Se tomó como punto de partida la recopilación de información sobre la vida y obra de Means, ello permitió complementar el análisis de las cartas enviadas por él a Valcárcel entre los años de 1932 a 1940. Los resultados de nuestra investigación se reflejaron en la cantidad de temas discutidos por ambos intelectuales, todos relevantes a la historia del Perú, pero también se evidenció informaciones de otra índole, de carácter internacional. En suma, este estudio aporta un conocimiento mayor sobre uno de los peruanistas poco estudiados a partir de su correspondencia con Luis E. Valcárcel, destacado intelectual peruano.
