This article aims to give an account of the characteristics that define the task ofphilosophy and science from the differences that have been occurring between themthroughout history. Thus, it emphasizes the significance of the birth of experimentalscience in the 17TH century and the important role that philosophy has played in theprogress of such process. It also tackles, concisely, issues concerning the work that thephilosophy of science accomplishes as a discipline oriented, on the one hand, to the explicitation of the methodological assumptions of the activity developing the science,and, on the other hand, the conceptual analysis of its products, the scientific theories.
El artículo tiene como objetivo dar cuenta de las características que definen la laborde la filosofía y la ciencia, a partir de las diferencias que se han ido manifestandoentre una y otra a lo largo de la historia. Así, se recalca la trascendencia que revisteel nacimiento de la ciencia experimental en el siglo xvii y el importante papel quela filosofía ha desempeñado en la marcha de dicho proceso. También se aborda demanera concisa cuestiones relativas a la labor que cumple la filosofía de la cienciaen tanto disciplina orientada, por una parte, a la explicitación de los presupuestosmetodológicos de la actividad que desarrolla la ciencia y, por otra, al análisisconceptual de sus productos, las teorías científicas.
