Perception of the Citizen Safety in inhabitants from Arequipa City District

The study analyzes the perception of citizen security in 444 settlers from the district of Paucarpata of the City of Arequipa, chosen randomly. The average age of the participants (M = 28.6, SD = 13) years, of which 47.1% are male and 52.9% are female. The instrument used was the Citizen Security Questionnaire. The results indicate low perception of citizen security and its dimensions (Reliability, Empathy and Tangible Elements), and there are statistically significant differences in the response capacity between men (M = 15.7, DE = 4.2) and women (M = 16.9). ; DE = 4.2), these differences being small TE (d = 0.29). In addition, the participants who are single, students and with a higher education degree, have a better perception about the variable under study than the other groups of participants, however, these differences have TE small. Age correlates in an inverse and low way with the dimensions and variable studied, that is, younger participants have a better perception of citizen security, unlike older participants.
En el estudio se analiza la percepción sobre seguridad ciudadana en 444 pobladores del distrito de Paucarpata de la Ciudad de Arequipa, escogidos aleatoriamente. La edad promedio de los participantes (M= 28.6; DE= 13.0) años, de los cuales el 47.1% son del sexo masculino y el 52,9% del sexo femenino. El instrumento utilizado fue el Cuestionario sobre Seguridad Ciudadana. Los resultados indican baja percepción sobre la seguridad ciudadana y sus dimensiones (Fiabilidad, Empatía y Elementos Tangibles), asimismo, existen diferencias estadísticamente significativas en la dimensión capacidad de respuesta entre hombres (M=15.7; DE= 4.2) y mujeres (M=16.9; DE=4.2), siendo estas diferencias de TE pequeño (d= 0.29). Además, los participantes que son solteros, estudiantes y con grado de instrucción superior, tienen mejor percepción sobre la variable en estudio que los otros grupos de participantes, sin embargo, esas diferencias tienen TE pequeño. La edad correlaciona de forma inversa y baja con las dimensiones y la variable estudiada, es decir, los participantes con menor edad tienen una mejor percepción sobre seguridad ciudadana a diferencia de los participantes con mayor edad.
