MATERIALS AND METHODS: A byetapic conglomerate sampling affixed to size, the participantes were 780 students of each three grades belonging to seven units (UGEL) of the city of Lima, Peru. The instruments were the spanish version of a reading comprehension test, named «Prueba de Comprensión Lectora de Complejidad Lingüística Progresiva» for fourth to sixth grade respectively. The statistical analysis considered three stages: Psycometric study in order to calculate validity and reliability index, descriptive analysis, and inferential hypothesis testing. RESULTS: It has been found that all the instruments have appropiate validity and reliability values. There were not significative differences on reading comprehension among students from public and private schools of fourth grade of primary school, either are not differences considering the biological sex of the students. There were significative differences on reading comprehension among students from public and private schools of fifth grade of primary school. It was found significative differences on reading comprehension only on students from public schools, considering the biological sex, showing males higher scores than females. There were significative differences on reading comprehension among the students from public and private schools of sixth grade, also it was find statistically significative differences considering biological sex, showing the female students higher scores than the male students.

Analizar el nivel de desarrollo de la comprensión de los alumnos de centros educativos estatales y no estatales en cuarto, quinto y sexto grado de primaria. c. Comparar los niveles de desarrollo de la comprensión lectora por sexo en cuarto, quinto y sexto grado de primaria. d. Establecer las propiedades psicométricas de los instrumentos utilizados. e. Estudiar el modelo del constructo de la comprensión lectora utilizando el análisis factorial confirmatorio. DISEÑO: Estudio descriptivo comparativo, realizado en alumnos de cuarto a sexto grado de primaria considerando centros educativos estatales y no estatales. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Muestreo por conglomerados en dos etapas, con probabilidades proporcionales al tamaño; la muestra estuvo constituida por 780 participantes de cada grado escolar, de las siete UGEL de Lima Metropolitana. Los instrumentos utilizados fueron las versiones españolas de la Prueba de Comprensión Lectora de Complejidad Lingüística Progresiva de 4.º a 6.º grado de Primaria – Forma A. El análisis estadístico se llevó a cabo en tres etapas: adaptación psicométrica para evaluar la validez y confiabilidad de los instrumentos; análisis descriptivo de las variables estudiadas; e inferencial para la contrastación de las hipótesis planteadas. RESULTADOS: Se ha encontrado que los tres instrumentos son válidos y confiables. En 4.º grado no se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre los alumnos de colegios estatales y no estatales, tampoco se encontraron diferencias por sexo. En quinto grado se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre los alumnos de centros educativos estatales y no estatales. Considerando la variable sexo se encontró que existen diferencias significativas solo en los alumnos de colegios estatales, siendo los varones quienes obtienen puntuaciones más elevadas que las mujeres. En sexto grado, se observaron diferencias significativas entre los alumnos de centros educativos estatales y no estatales, y también se encontraron diferencias significativas al considerar la variable sexo, a favor las niñas.
