Se examinaron 50 gatos (Felis catus) de diferente edad, sexo y raza, sin aparentes dermatopatías procedentes de cinco clínicas veterinarias de la ciudad de Trujillo, con el propósito de determinar la presencia de Microsporum canis. Se obtuvieron por depilación, muestras de cabeza, cuello y miembros anteriores para ser observadas directamente en solución de KOH 20% al microscopio y posteriormente ser cultivadas en agar Sabouraud. De los gatos sin aparentes dermatopatías, el 8% resultaron positivos a la observación directa y el 22% por aislamiento de Microsporum canis en cultivo. No se encontró diferencia significativa por región corporal muestreada.
