Lichen planus is a chronic, inflammatory, autoimmune disease that affects the skin, mucousmembranes, and nails. Although its exact cause remains unknown, it has been associated withhepatitis C, bacterial infections, metal allergens, medications, and emotional stress. It has alsobeen linked to conditions such as psoriasis, diabetes, hypertension, and thyroid disorders. There are several variants of lichen planus, among which, annular lichen planus presents with an unusualand more uncommon distribution pattern. The high incidence of vulvovaginitis associated to contact dermatitis and chronic simple lichen motivated us to review these topics in this article. Guidelines for diagnosis and therapy are proposed for vulvovaginitits associated to dermatosis. Within the scope of differential diagnosis two less frequent diseases are mentioned - lichen escleroatrophicus and lichen planus-, emphasizing the planus-, emphasizing the devastating consequences that can arise by not doing an early diagnosis and therapy.

Objective: The objective of this study is to update scientific knowledge about OPMDs, emphasizing epidemiological data, clinical appearance, symptomatology, differential diagnosis and therapeutic management, as well as highlighting the role of the general dentist in the clinical examination. Material and methods: A literature search was carried out, making use of the keywords “Leukoplakia”, “Erythroplasia”, “Cheilitis”, “Nevus, Pigmented”, “Oral Submucous Fibrosis” and “Lichen Planus”. Objective: To determine the prevalence of mucosal alterations and oral lesions diagnosed at the School of Dentistry, Federal University of Amazonas, Manaus-Brazil. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive and retrospective study, which analyzed the medical records of patients over 18 years of age from 2010 to 2013. Data were collected related to presence of soft tissue alterations, with emphasis on white-colored lesions, as well as variables such as age, gender, use of medications, systemic diseases and deleterious habits. The data were submitted to descriptive analysis and presented by average and standard deviation by means of tables. Results: 82 medical records were included, with prevalence of the female (60.98%) and mean age of 43.3 years.
