RESULTS: The percentage of correct answers in adolescents was 60% with a standard deviation of 13.6%. Women had a higher percentage score than their male counterparts. (63% and 56.7%, p value <0.001, T de Student). There was no correlation between the scores obtained and the age. The level of knowledge was rated as medium with 73.6% and low with 21.6%. Condom was the contraceptive method of which they had better knowledge (88.6%). CONCLUSIONS: The results show that it is necessary to improve the quality of information and knowledge about the proper use of contraceptive methods, which will have an effect positive on the sexual and reproductive health of adolescents.OBJETIVOS: Evaluar el conocimiento sobre contraconceptivos, uso, eficacia y efectos adversos en una población de adolescentes de una escuela secundaria pública. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Este estudio es descriptivo y de corte transversal. Se administró un cuestionario de 13 preguntas que evaluó el conocimiento sobre contraceptivos e información demográfica adicional. En el análisis de datos se aplicó técnicas descriptivas y exploratorias con análisis factorial. Participaron 333 adolescentes; la muestra fue no probabilística. RESULTADOS: El porcentaje de respuestas correctas en los adolescentes fue 60% con una desviación estándar de 13,6%. Las mujeres tuvieron puntaje porcentual mayor que sus contrapartes varones (63% y 56,7%; p valor < 0,001; T de Student). No hubo correlación entre los puntajes obtenidos con la edad. El nivel de conocimiento fue calificado como medio en 73,6% y bajo en 21,6%. El condón fue el método contraconceptivo del que tenían un mejor conocimiento (88,6%).
