This review analyzes the experience reported by teachers of mathematics in public junior high schools in Jalisco, México, about the collaborative work of students to learn mathematical content and processes. Weekly logs of 30 teachers were analyzed during one school year to identify modalities of collaborative work, contents or processes taught in this way, evaluative comments about this modality of work to achieve learning and the decisions made by teachers after evaluating its efficacy. It was found that all teachers promoted collaborative work but with varied frequency and in different ways, mainly to solve problems, for discovery activities, to generate hypotheses and to extract information from given information. Drawing from their experience, teachers made different evaluations about collaborative learning and consequently they took the decision to continue promoting it or decreas...

Septal Neuroblastoma (SN 56) cells are hybrid cells made through cell fusions between quiescent medial septum neurons (cholinergic) and tumoral neuroblastoma cells. Cholinergic cells synthesize and release the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Preliminary studies in our laboratory revealed that SN 56 neurons also express the vesicular glutamate transporter type 1 (VGluT1), a protein that is normally produced by glutamatergic neurons. This discovery prompted us to hypothesize that SN 56 neurons may also co-express a glutamatergic phenotype which is important because glutamatergic neurons have been associated to the pathogenesis of neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. To assess whether SN 56 neurons express in fact both phenotypes, we conducted experiments in differentiated and no differentiated SN 56 cell, to confirm the expression of glutamatergic phenotype, by qPCR, weste...

While our IGLC community was trying to catch up with how the reshaping of the manufacturing by the advent of the “fourth industrial revolution” or industry 4.0 would impact the architecture-engineering-construction (AEC) industry, an even bigger and unprecedented economic and social disruption caused by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, posed new and unimaginable challenges leading to a world that is going through its biggest transformation in every single aspect of our society in almost a Century. Countries responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by taking unprecedented steps such as making large amounts of money available to fund rescue measures such as tax cuts, extended unemployment benefits, mortgage holidays, and liquidity for small and medium-sized businesses. And some of the millions of persons that suddenly started working remotely during the pandemic, have taken the...

Not a few people believe that the lack of debate and negotiation is in favor of the economic growth, because it permits the application of economic measures without taking into account the interests of certain pressure groups. In this paper, we try to demonstrate that the reality is totally contrary. For that, we discuss theoretically how the production of the rules of the game is affected by the characteristics of the political market, particularly by the collective action and by the nature of the political regime. On the basis of this analysis, we conclude that the rules of the game are in favor of the economic growth if the transaction costs to conform a group are depreciable, if the groups congregate wide sectors of the society and have adequate accountability mechanisms, and if the political power is not concentrated.

Some authors think autocracies, unlike democracies, can follow economic policies that promote private investment and economic growth, without being influenced by demands of some lobbies, which pretend to mantain and expand their privilegies. Odria's autocracy (1948-1956) seems to be an example of the autocratic advantage. During Odria's government, concentration of political power permitted Odria to pursue an ortodox economic program and promote privte investment on mining and exporting agriculture. However, those policies were possible because the lobbies very close to the government in those years (exporters) promoted such policies. If the most powerful lobbies had demanded protectionist policies, economic policies would have been totally different. On the other hand, even though at the beginning of his government, Odria could impose a liberal economic program, along the years he had t...

In the context of IT incident management, the prioritization and automation of tickets can be a challenge for companies that lack advanced technologies. However, these difficulties can be overcome today by applying machine learning algorithms and techniques that use historical data to train predictive models, which allows for more efficient and effective IT incident management. The article proposes the implementation of a predictive model that uses machine learning to prioritize IT incidents in these companies. The goal of this proposal is to allow small and medium-sized enterprises to prioritize their incidents automatically, using a model that has been previously trained with a supervised multi-label classification algorithm technique to achieve high accuracy. Experimental results show that the Mean Absolute Error (MAE) is 2.79 and a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 8.21, using the metrics ...

Adobe homes are prone to natural phenomena such as floods, landslides, and earthquakes, due to the intense rains that occur from the month of November to March. This study aimed to investigate the mechanical properties of adobes reinforced with rice husk, lime and neem fibers and evaluate their compressive strength and water absorption capacity. The tests were carried out on adobes with dimensions of 10×10×10 cm3 made with earth, 0.75% rice husk, 0.75% lime and 1 to 3% neem fibers of the total weight of the adobe to determine the evaluations of the specimen. Therefore, a visit was made to the study area located in the province of Yauyos-Peru to classify the type of soil that would be used in the samples, then sift the soil to prepare the mud and let it rest for 24 hours. Then, incorporate the reinforcements and mold the adobes to let them dry for 28 days and proceed with the tests. The...

The purpose of this article is to present a critical review of the ways in which the performance of university teachers are usually evaluated. Generally, the institutions state proposal of evaluation that usually coincide with what is evaluated and the use of the results. It includes the review of the different evaluation models to show the discrepancies between the objectives and the practices, that is, the poor relationship between the model used and what is done. Universities usually declare that the focus of the evaluation is improvement of practice. One of the most used instruments is the questionnaire, with which an accurate measurement can be made, but generally it does not evaluate the teaching performance, but, in the best-case scenario, the opinion of the students. If universities state that the evaluation should serve to improve the teaching practice, it would be advisable to ...

A new species of the genus Charinus Simon, 1892 is described from Santa Teresa District (1436 –1511 m of altitude), La Convención, Cusco, Peru, being this the third Charinus species from this region and the fifth one for this South American country. Its general feature and female gonopods greatly resembles Charinus longitarsus Armas & Palomino-Cardenas, 2016, and C. yanatile Palomino-Cardenas & Armas, 2022, from Cusco, too; but it differs from them by having 16 instead of 14 trichobothria in the distitibia of leg IV; on the other hand, in C. longitarsus the leg I has 30 tarsomeres (43 in the new species); whereas C. yanatiles has larger median ocular tubercle and the first tarsomere of leg I is longer than tarsomeres 1+2 joined. Also, the description of the female gonopods of C. longitarsus is emended and a taxonomic key for the identification of the Peruvian species of Charin...

The present study describes the anatomical and histological pattern of the digestive system of the ‘sabaleta’ (Brycon henni). Six adult male and female individuals were fished in Guaracu creek, Antioquia, Colombia, between May and June 2016. The fish weighed 151.2 g and were 22.7 cm in total length. The organs of the digestive system were fixed in 10% buffered formalin and processed with routine histological techniques. The most remarkable structures, due to their specific anatomical pattern and histological complexity, were the gill rakers (4), the pyloric caeca (13 in females and 8 in males), the bulky and lobate hepato-pancreas, and the anterior, middle and posterior intestine with villi and microvilli. The ‘sabaleta’, according to the digestive pattern as to teeth, gill rakers, stomach, and intestinal structure and length, suggests that it is a kind of omnivorous food habit s...
