Summary:In the present research we sought to know the gender representations of a group of adolescents from the city of Lima, through the exploration of their natural semantic networks. A total of 130 participants, 63 male and 67 female, between 13 and 16 years of age from a private school and a mixed management, were evaluated using the variant of the technique of natural semantic networks proposed by Hinojosa (2008). The results showed greater semantic richness for the "male" network (J = 263) compared to the "female" network (J = 217). In a complementary way, networks were generated from the responses of the men and women in the group study. In both cases, greater semantic richness was maintained for "man" networks (J = 168 and J = 163) and for "woman" networks (J = 156 and J = 131). The results suggest that men represent the concept "Woman" in a traditional way, and, on the contrary, women represent the concept "Man" attached to the concept of hegemonic masculinity. In contrast, each differentiated group agrees on referents not quite traditional when representing the sex to which they belong. It is sought that these findings be applied in issues related to gender violence in the country and its prevention, and it is recommended to deepen the study of representations according to the sex of the participants.
