Summary:This study was performed with patient records Obstetrics Service of Belen Hospital of Trujillo the period 2012 – 2013. General Objective: determine if pregestacional obesity is a risk factor for preeclampsia. Material and Method: retrospective analytical case-control study in which 184 medical records of pregnant patients of the Obstetrics Hospital Belén de Trujillo was selected was performed. Nonparametric test of independence of criteria was applied using Chi Square distribution with a lower level of significance at 5% (p <0.05) and to the strength of association calculated the odds ratio (OR) and confidence interval 95%. Main Results: OR: 2.649 with an index of 95% confidence between 1.265-5.547, with a X2 association of 5.9235 and a p-value: 0.0149. Conclusion: There is significant association between prepregnancy obesity and the development of preeclampsia
