Summary:ABSTRACT The purpose of the research was to identify the determinants of academic performance as well as the profile, the latent factors and typologies of 2307 students of the Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Cajamarca, the semester enrolled in 2008-I, depending their characteristics social, economic, biological, pedagogical and psychological, for which we selected a stratified random sample of 169 school students academic professional Civil Engineering (55) Systems (46), Geology (44) and Hydraulics (24) , who answered a structured questionnaire for this purpose, it was found that the factors that determine academic achievement are the social factor: educational attainment and father's occupation, psychological factor of career choice and interest in approving courses high qualifications and pedagogical factor: daily study hours outside of class, that students are mostly men, villagers, with an average age of 22 years, who drink, do not smoke, whose studies are financed by their parents, are dedicated exclusively to study, with average academic performance regularly, that the factors summarize the characteristics of the students are: a CULTURAL socioeconomic factor, a factor and a factor BIOPEDAGÒGICO venture. Also found three types of students according to academic performance factors: 1. Students have many skills but also limitations that need social support, economic and psychological conditions 2.Alumnos having to obtain positive results in performance but need a reorientation of their academic goals and 3. Students with negative views of their teachers, who chose his career manifested by vocation.
