Escuela de Posgrado. Maestría en Producción AnimalEl objetivo del estudio fue comparar la germinación de semilla de soya perenne (Nenotonia wightii) cv. Cooper en función de dos métodos de escarificación (agua caliente y escarificación mecánica) versus tratamiento control (sin escarificación). La escarificación mecánica consistió en raspar las cubiertas de las semillas friccionándolas a mano, utilizando papel lija #125 durante 5 minutos. La escarificación con agua caliente consistió en colocar las semillas en agua al punto de ebullición en proporción 1:3 semilla:agua durante 24 horas. El porcentaje de semillas germinadas fue mayor en el tratamiento con escarificación mecánica con papel lija (p<0.05) y similar entre el tratamiento con agua caliente y el control. El mayor porcentaje de germinación fue 37.5, 40, y 96% en los días 14, 12, y 9 para los tratamientos control, agua caliente, y escarificación mecánica, respectivamente.The aim of this study was to compare the germination of perennial soybean (Nenotonia wightii) cv. Cooper based on two methods of scarification (hot water and mechanical scarification) versus control treatment (without scarification). Mechanical scarification consisted of scraping the seed with sandpaper (# 125) by hand for 5 minutes.Scarification with hot water consisted of placing the seeds in boiling point water in a 1:3seed:water ratio for 24 hours. The percentage of germinated seeds was higher in themechanical scarification treatment with sandpaper (p<0.05) and similar between thetreatment with hot water and the control.
