Los objetivos específicos fueron (i) caracterizar las concesiones forestales en el departamento Huánuco, Perú y (ii) evaluar la sustentabilidad de las concesiones forestales en el departamento Huánuco, Perú. Se usó la metodología de “Analisis Multicriterio” considerando tres dimensiones de la sustentabilidad y se tomaron cinco concesiones forestales ubicadas en la región de estudio (CEM, JRP, EMP, SAA y AJM). Para el diseño de la encuesta para la caracterización y la construcción de indicadores de sustentabilidad, se realizó un taller en la Universidad Nacional Agraria de la Selva (Tingo María, Huánuco), en el que participaron profesionales y personas vinculadas a la actividad forestal de la región. Para la caracterización, se consideraron un conjunto de preguntas asociadas a las tres dimensiones de la sustentabilidad. Para evaluar la sustentabilidad se seleccionaron subindicadores, variables y fórmulas para calcular el valor de los indicadores ambiental (IE), económico (IK) y sociocultural (ISC) y el Índice de Sustentabilidad General (ISGen). Se encontraron algunas diferencias entre las concesiones estudiadas que fueron clasificadas en dos grupos: el grupo A reunió al 40% de las concesiones (CEM y JRP) y el grupo B, al 60% restante (EMP, SAA y AJM). Las dos concesiones con aprovechamiento forestal mecanizado (CEM y SAA) resultaron económicamente sustentables, pero no ambientalmente. Las tres concesiones con aprovechamiento forestal manual y mixto (JRP, EMP y AJM), resultaron no sustentables económicamente, pero sí ambientalmente. El 80% de concesiones forestales son socioculturalmente sustentables (CEM, JRP, EMP y SAA). Finalmente, ninguna de las cinco concesiones forestales en estudio es sustentable. Se recomienda difundir el uso de estos indicadores para evaluar la sustentabilidad de las concesiones forestales en otras regiones del país.This research work had the general objective of evaluating the sustainability of forest concessions in Huánuco department, Peru. The specific objectives were (i) to characterize forest concessions in Huánuco department, Peru, and (ii) evaluate the sustainability of forest concessions in Huánuco department, Peru. For the research, the “Multi-Criteria Analysis” methodology was used considering three dimensions of sustainability, and five forest concessions located in the study region were taken (coded as CEM, JRP, EMP, SAA, and AJM). The design of the survey for the characterization and construction of sustainability indicators, a workshop was held at the National Agrarian University of La Selva (Tingo María, Huánuco), in which professionals and people participated who work in forestry in the region. For the characterization of forest concessions, a set of questions associated with the three dimensions of sustainability were considered. To evaluate sustainability, subindicators, variables, and formulas were selected to calculate the value of the environmental (IE), economic (IK), and sociocultural (ISC) indicators and also the general sustainability index (ISg). The results of this research showed some differences between the studied concessions which were classified into two groups: the first (Group A) brought together 40 % of the concessions (CEM and JRP) and the second (Group B), to the remaining 60%. The two concessions with mechanized forest harvesting (CEM and JRP) were economically sustainable, but not environmentally sustainable. The three concessions with manual and mixed forest use (EMP, SAA, and AJM), were not economically sustainable, but they were environmentally sustainable. 80% of forest concessions are socioculturally sustainable. Finally, none of the forest concessions are sustainable.
